We currently have two missions projects that we are working on and supporting: Orphanage in Malawi, Africa and the Tres Rios Ranch in Tamaulipas, Mexico.
Moffat and Rosemary Phiri are our missionaries and contacts in Malawi, Africa. It is through their efforts that we became aware of the hundreds of homeless children in Malawi. AIDS has left these children to fend for themselves. Most of these children live around Lake Malawi. It is by this lake that Moffat and Rosemary have begun construction on an orphanage. After returning home from the US, Rosemary wrote, "Things here are worse than I imagined with many people starving of hunger related situations. Stores have closed, less merchandise in the ones open, and a real feeling of oppression. Journalists continue to be kidnapped and beaten and a general fear of the government is prevalent. Greg Wood is our missionary and contact in Tamaulipas, Mexico. Greg is a second generation missionary. He has lived in Mexico over 30 years. It was through Greg that we came into contact with a Houston business man who wanted to donate his property in Mexico to a Christian organization which would in turn use the property to evangelize Mexico. After talking with the business man, he decided that Church on the Rock Outreach Center was just the organization to do that.
Tres Rios Ranchero, (Three Rivers Ranch) sits on 200 acres in Padilla, Tamaulipas, Mexico. It currently has a main house, a restaurant, six cabins, 2 trucks and a small herd of sheep. The main house is in fairly good condition as is the restaurant and three cabins. The remaining three cabins are in need of complete renovation, including new thatch roofs and electrical wiring. Also needed for the entire ranch is a reliable/safe water system. (Currently water is hauled in by truck from the river.)
Renovation is under way with the completion of 3 new thatched roofs, accommodations for the groundskeeper, a new water tank, and repair of vehicles.
Youth camps are held at the ranch during the summer months. They are able to utilize the restaurant and the three renovated cabins. (The girls slept in the cabins, and the boys sleep outside.) Our goals include completing renovation, making the ranch available for use for missions trips(from the US), local youth camps and local church conferences/seminars.
